Dawn Pellas

Updated: February 8, 2012

Dawn Pellas joined WTAJ as co-anchor of "Central PA Live" in August 2011 and she is thrilled to be back home in Pennsylvania, surrounded by family and friends!  Dawn grew up in Patton, Cambria County and graduated from Cambria Heights High School. She has a degree in Journalism and a minor in Communications Media from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has spent the past 15 years covering news up and down the East Coast.

Dawn began her broadcasting career in radio at WCCS 1160 AM in Homer City, PA and also served as a bureau chief for Mainline Newspapers (Cresson and Patton) before taking on television. She kicked off her T.V. career at WWCP/WATM in Johnstown, before moving to Florida to serve as a reporter/anchor with VNN News. Dawn continued working as a reporter/anchor at WSLS (NBC affiliate, Roanoke, VA), WB 38 News at 10 (Tampa, FL), ABC Action News (Tampa, FL) and News 12 Networks (New Jersey).

Dawn has won several awards for her reporting. She is a member of the New York Television Academy of Arts and Sciences and was honored this year in New York City with an Emmy nomination for breaking news. Last year, she was awarded first place from the New Jersey Associated Press for her report on a surprise hail storm that hit the Garden State in June 2009. She has also done live, breaking news reports on MSNBC, CNN and the BBC in London, England, covering various national stories, from kidnappings to hurricanes.

Dawn likes to say that she was destined to be on television because she was literally born on T.V., right here on WTAJ! Dawn and her parents were featured in a special report when fathers were first allowed in the labor/delivery room. She was born on Thanksgiving day and a news crew from WTAJ was there to film the big event! So, this job brings her full circle to where it all started!

Dawn and her husband Garret became the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl, Saffron, in December 2010. They also have a "son", Pepper, their miniature poodle.
