MARTINSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY - Motorcycle riding is something Don and Candy Hoover loved to do before they had their first born Leah.
"3 of us couldn't ride on the motorcycle. We decided we were going to have a family so I sold it with the iron clad guarantee I'd get another," Don said.
Leah and her brother would become the center of Don and Candy's world. Motorcycle riding took a back seat. Then in 2005, at 20 years old, Leah died in a tragic fire. Her parents refused to let it snuff out her legacy.
"We wanted to have something good come out of a nasty situation," Candy said.
So they launched the Leah Hoover Memorial Ride. For the 6th straight year, bikers will line up at Morrisons Cove Memorial Park for the 100 mile dice run. The money raised will buy life saving equipment for first responders. Don will be on a motorcycle.
"The first year we had the ride I actually rented the motorcycle to go on. The second year we bought one," he said.
They got rid of their first bike because of Leah. They got another, in part, to celebrate her life.
"Oh she would be tickled, just tickled. Absolutely," Candy said.
