The Food and Drug administration is warning that a hormone treatment for hot flashes could be hazardous to children and pets. Evamist contains an estrogen hormone, and is sprayed on the skin between the elbow and wrist, on the inside of the arm.
The F.D.A. is reviewing reports of premature puberty in children and swelling in pets, who were inadvertently exposed to Evamist.
The agency says kids and pets should not be allowed touch the area of the arm where the mist is sprayed.
