PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- A report shows over half the food vendors that work in the three largest sports facilities in Pittsburgh have major health-code violations.
ESPN's "Outside the Lines" looked at health department inspection reports for food and beverage vendors at all 107 arenas and stadiums that hold Major League Baseball, National Football League, National Hockey League and National Basketball Association teams in North America in 2009.
At nearly 30% of the venues, over half the concession stands or restaurants were rated as having at least one "critical" or "major" health violation, including presenting a risk of foodborne illnesses.
The report showed at Heinz Field, 61% of food vendors had critical violations and inspectors discovered a worker washing his hands with his gloves on and milk that had expired ten days earlier.
