BUSINESS NEWS -  While April 15th,  Tax Day, is dreaded by millions of people,  new figures out of Washington reveal that almost half of all Americans  will pay no federal income taxes for last year.  A new report out of the Washington based Tax Policy Center  has concluded that  47 %  of all U.S.  households will have to pay no federal taxes when they file their returns this year.   Those  would be tax-payers either have incomes that are too low or they  have qualified  for enough federal  credits, deductions and exemptions that  when they file, they will have no tax liability.    While they may not owe the government anything, these  would be  tax payers still may want  to file tax forms with the Federal Government.  Submitting the paperwork is the only way to get a refund on any tax payments that have been withheld by employers or other financial institutions.

There is a new alert for summer travelers.  Two more large  U.S Airlines appear to be closing in on a merger.   This time it is United Airlines and U.S. Airways that are in talks.  If the deal is successfully completed, it will create this nation's second largest carrier.  Those two airlines have already tried to merge twice.  The most recent  attempt was called off in 2004  in the face of objections from Labor Unions and the Federal Government.  This time the carriers say the merger would save them  millions of  dollars each  year and  make them more competitive in the global industry.

Less than a week after the new Apple  I-Pad went on sale in this country, it is already spreading over seas. Sales of  the new hand held  device have already topped 600 thousand according to  the latest information from the manufacture. While the device is not supposed to be available  outside of the U.S. until the end of this month,  I-Pads have already been appearing on store shelves in Hong Kong.   There are reports that the device is selling for about 60 %  above retail  because of the early demand over seas.
