The Pirates released the following statement with regards to the condition of Curve second baseman Jim Negrych.

STATEMENT ON JIM NEGRYCH STATUS

After colliding with shortstop Brian Friday during Monday’s game versus Binghamton, Altoona Curve second baseman Jim Negrych suffered a hematoma.  Upon review, it was determined that the best course of action was surgery.  Jim had surgery this morning and has come through fine.  The Pirates’ organization is encouraged by where he’s at and the prognosis for his health going forward.  The focus at this time is Jim’s overall health as opposed to when he will return to the baseball field.  Jim is very appreciative of the outpouring of support, thoughts, prayers, and overall support that the passionate people of Altoona will offer as he heals.
