ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Pennsylvania lawmakers are weighing in on the possible effects of the huge spending cut still scheduled for Friday.

At least when it comes to Pennsylvania's U.S. Senators, their positions on sequestration follow right along with their respective political parties.  Democratic Senator Bob Casey says the billions of dollars in across the board budget cuts set to take effect this Friday could deliver a devastating blow to the Pennsylvania economy.

But this state's Republican Senator, Pat Toomey said the proposed reduction in federal spending might not be that harmful.  In Senator Toomey's view, it would make sense to adjust the looming budget cuts and target specific areas of federal spending.  But the still believes Washington is spending too much.

For his part Senator Casey contends that the coming cuts are unfair because of the way they target important federal domestic programs.   Both Casey and Toomey say they believe a spending compromise is possible in Washington that would avoid the most negative effects of sequestration.   But party leaders on both sides unwilling to take the steps needed to reach that deal.
