WASHINGTON - The U.S. Senate unveiled a new gun control measure in response to December's deadly shooting massacre at a Connecticut elementary school.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) proposed Thursday to ban some military style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunity clips.

She said there's been too many shooting rampages involving these types of firearms.

"The common thread in these shootings is each gunman used a semi-auto assault weapon or large capacity ammunition magazine," Feinstein said.

Feinstein authored the 1994 assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.

Despite a push by the White House and Democrats for tougher gun control measures, Feinstein's full proposal is given little chance of winning congressional approval.

Comments

The latest shooting was in a state that already has an "Assault Weapon" ban, was in a "Gun Free Zone", and last I checked killing people was still illegal, as was stealing a car and the guns he used. What will more laws do? Nothing but infringe upon the rights of law abiding Americans.

Too bad Harvey Milk or former San Francisco mayor Moscone didn't have an "assault rifle" or a pistol with "a large capacity magazine" with them back in 1978.

I find it disheartening that people will not educate themselves with the truth on this issues! they listen to the media and determine that is the be all end all. NO WHERE! in our 2nd Amendment does it relate to " HUNTING " And Feinstein as no clue on what an assult rifle is! just because it looks scary we should ban it "really". all this blustering from democrats is just that blustering! this bill will be shot down by the supreme court if passed! do you people even realize Feistein has a conceal carry permit can you say "hypocrite?" the FBI has already stated this ban will not work like the last one. people listen when that burglar breaks into your house and you have to make a choice! are you gonna be a victim or do you want to live? don't kid yourselves the world is not a safe place people want what you got and they will kill you for it! you have a choice, yell at the bad guys ( hey your breaking the law , that not legal, and wait 20 mins for the cops to show up) i really hope you survive. or defend you home, spouses, kids and take a stand! everyone thought Newtown couldn't happen in their town just like the people think being robbed, raped or burglarized won't happen to them. wake up America this is not a dream!
