Pirates Trim Roster to 40

Three top Pirates prospects sent to minor leagues

BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) -

The Pittsburgh Pirates have sent their top three prospects - third baseman
Neil Walker and outfielders Andrew McCutchen and Steve Pearce - to the minor leagues.
     
Pearce was optioned Tuesday to Class AAA Indianapolis along with
right-handers Bryan Bullington and Ty Taubenheim and shortstop
Brian Bixler.
     
Walker and McCutchen were reassigned to the minor-league camp
along with right-handers T.J. Beam, Brian Rogers and Marino Salas
and infielder Luis Cruz.
     
Walker, McCutchen, Pearce and Bixler all will be in the lineup
at Indianapolis to begin the season. Pearce had four home runs and
10 RBIs in 38 at-bats during exhibition games.
     
The Pirates have 40 players remaining in their spring training
camp.
