An area hospital says s a great deal of financial pressure forced job cuts

Clearfield Hospital announced  the elimination of  25 positions across the board. Reductions in clinical, support and management positions will be made by not filling vacant positions, eliminating positions and reducing hours for some part- and full-time positions.

Hospital President Gary Macioce says the medical center has been under a great deal of financial pressure and has lost money for the past several months  due to a drop in patients. He also blames the hospital's financial challenges on changes in reimbursements for Medicare and Medicaid, which account for 64-percent of its revenue.

In addition,Clearfield Hospital says it's provided nearly $9 million in uncompensated care in the past year and a half. Macioce says the reductions are necessary to preserve its financial integrity and won't affect the quality of patient care.
