Arctic air is now pressing into the region and it will be the coldest weather we've had in years. As the cold air presses into the region, we had bands of snow showers move through the region this afternoon and there will still be scattered snow showers and a few heavier squalls tonight. Accumulations will reach up to a few inches in spots, especially near and east of Route 219. Temperatures will drop into the teens and single digits early Tuesday morning with much lower wind chills. A wind chill advisory is in effect for Jefferson, Indiana, Cambria and Somerset counties through 1pm Wednesday. Even in the areas without the advisory, you will need to be cautious. the best way to combat wind chill is to cover all exposed flesh and limit your time outside. Check on the elderly and sick as they are more susceptible to the cold. Insulate pipes that are prone to freezing and keep your gas tank at least half full. Tuesday will be a windy and frigid day with temperatures not getting higher than the teens in the valley locations and single digits in the higher elevations. Wind chills will still reach well below zero. While there will still be scattered flurries and snow showers there will also be some sunshine, especially near and east of I-99. There may be a fresh covering of snow in spots Wednesday night into early Thursday; otherwise, Thursday will be partly sunny and still quite cold with highs in the teens. A system will track across the region and bring a better chance for a widespread snowfall later Thursday night into Friday. Behind this system Saturday will be cold with scattered flurries and snow showers but then temperatures will be on the rebound as we head into the beginning of next week.
