Man Claims He May Be Sandusky's First Victim

The Sandusky scandal stems from abuse starting  back in the 1990s.  Many victims from that time have come forward.
 
In his closing arguments of the Sandusky trial, his attorney Joe Amendola said quote:

"All of these alleged charges only go back to the mid-1990s. All of a sudden, when Mr. Sandusky is in his mid-50s, he decides to become a pedophile. Does that make any sense to you?"

One western PA man says it doesn't make sense to him.  He claims Jerry Sandusky raped him more than 40 years ago.

Now, at age 57,  an alleged victim not involved in the Penn State scandal is speaking out for the first time.

Thursday night, he's telling his story exclusively to reporter Marty Griffin from our Pittsburgh News partner KDKA, hoping other victims will see it and have the courage to get help.

It was August 1966...A muggy day...Dark clouds overhead...Looked like rain.

The freshly cut grass at the Art Sandusky field...Green apple green.

He says, "We were all here playing kickball.  There were some girls and stuff. There were girls acting like cheerleaders over here. He came back this way."

This man was just 11 at the time. Jerry Sandusky was 22 and lived in an apartment with his family on the second floor of Brownson House, the rec center founded by his father. Sandusky was working there that summer.

He recalls, "He walked over and seen me..hey you look like a strong man...you wanna help me."
Griffin asks him, "So he handpicked you?  Yeah"

They walked back to the rec center building and he recalls what happened next.

"And we went in there. He brought you down in here?"

In a dirty basement room full of kids games, old school desks and chairs, the man says 22-year-old Jerry Sandusky raped him.

He says, "He started fondling...touching me...and I'm eleven years old..it felt good. I didn't know any better. Next thing I know he was raping me."

At one point during the alleged assault he says, he looked up and out of the small windows of the rec center basement.

Griffin again asks him "Your eyes see what...two girls?" He responds, "Two girls.  I can hear'em and see'em playing, running back and forth right here."

He added, "They both had summer dresses on - one had pink flower print and the other one had little yellow and blue birds. They both had white and black patent leather shoes."

"He kept repeating "real men don't cry"...I kept telling him how bad it hurt...my stomach was hurting awfully. He kept saying "real men don't cry" until I finally pushed backwards and he fell away from me."

Tears streaming down his face. He says he ran away home.

He continues, "I just thank God it was raining that day when I went home. It's why I like the rain now - can't see tears in the rain so no-one can tell I was crying."

He told no-one what had happened and tried to wash away the pain and the shame.

He recalls, "I hopped in the bathtub, threw all the clothes in the woods behind our place because they were a mess."

He says Sandusky tried to assault him one more time. He was able to get away, but he couldn't escape the train wreck that his life became.

"A weaker individual would have been dead by now.
Griffin asks,  "You wanted to be dead though?
Yeah.  Lets be honest...Right."

He responds, "Yeah. Three times that I can remember.
Tried to kill yourself?
Different ways....hanging..tried to shoot myself. Even jumped off a building once.
All bringing you back to that day?
So it seems...cause that's where everything seemed to start."

And that brings us back to the starting point where this man wants to begin his life over again and offer hope to other victims.

Griffin asks him, "Why are you doing this?"
The man says,  "Mainly because I know I cant be the only one out here. I may have been the first but I can't be the last."

"There's other guys out there that have been suffering like me. Maybe this will help them"

This man has been interviewed by the Attorney General's office and State Police.
And sources say police have interviewed three other credible victims who also claim Sandusky molested them in Washington County back in the 1960s.

Although those agencies are investigating, they won't prosecute since the statute of limitations has expired.
