Defending USA Volleyball Champions Lose

By: Brian Stalter
Updated: August 3, 2012
Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, the 2008 defending gold medalist in the Beijing games have been eliminated in the round of 16. Today the Italian duo of Nicolai Paolo and Lupo Daniele beat Dalhausser and Rogers in a two set sweep of the U.S veterans who have been teammates since the 2006 season.

The #2 ranked pair in the world, Rogers and Dalhausser fell in two straight sets to the Italians (21-17) (21-19). Heading into these games the pair were considered among many to be heavy favorites on the sand.

This will probably be the last games that the duo competes in Rogers (38) and Dalhausser (32). At the time of the 2016 games Rogers would be competing in his early 40's and Dalhausser in his late 30's, so although the Games in 2016 seem like a bit of a stretch, they could still compete in upcoming events like the world championships or still be competitive on the AVP tour.
