State College (0-1) manufactured both of its runs in the fifth inning. With one out, Williamsport (1-0) starting pitcher Joshua Warner (1-0) hit Spikes second baseman Francisco Aponte with a pitch. After Alex Fuselier walked, Ryan Hornback reached on an error by Crosscutters second baseman Tyler Greene which scored Aponte and allowed Fuselier to hustle across an unoccupied home plate.
Williamsport struck first on the scoreboard in the opening frame when Roman Quinn reached base on an infield hit and went to second on a throwing error by Carvajal. Quinn then scored the first run by stealing third base and going home on a throwing error by Hornback. Greene then extended the Crosscutters lead to 3-0 in the third inning with a two-run triple to right field after a walk and the third Spikes error.
In the sixth inning, Williamsport finished off the scoring in the game. Yan Carlos Olmo bunted reached on a throwing error with one out in the inning, and scored on Chase Numata's RBI single. A walk and another error scored Numata, and Brock Stassi completed the damage with another run-scoring single.
Carvajal, who stared at shortstop for State College in the game, singled in both the third and sixth innings and was the only Spikes player with multiple hits in the game.
Barrett Barnes, the Pirates' supplemental first-round draft choice this year, reached base twice via hit by pitch. Fuselier, Aponte and Jared Lakind also contributed base hits to the Spikes' cause.
