District Baseball and Softball Champions Crowned

District 6 baseball finalists invaded Blair County Ballpark in Lakemont Wednesday for a championship double-header.

In Quad-A, top seed State College defeated rival, Hollidaysburg, 5-2.  Travis Tice hit the bases loaded, 2-RBI single in the 4th inning that would prove to be the game-winner.

In the District 6 triple-a final, Mifflin County was well-represented as Lewistown battled cross-town rival Indian Valley.  Scott Brown sparked a 4th inning rally as the Panthers defeated IV, 10-7.  Lewistown rebounded from a 1-4 start to the season to win the District Championship.

The District 6 AA (Philipsburg-Osceola vs BEA) and A (Bishop Carroll vs Claysburg-Kimmel)  finals are Thursday at Blair County Ballpark.

In softball, District 6 held a championship double-header at Hess Field in Shingletown.  In the double-a final, Philipsburg-Osceola won its second straight title, defeating rival Bald Eagle Area, 1-0.  Kelsey Gonder scored the only run of the game after stealing second, and then advancing to third and home on an overthrown ball.

The District 6 class-a final between Homer Center and Southern Huntingdon went into the 8th inning tied at 1, when the Wildcats' Alyse Schevermann drew a bases-loaded walk allowing the winning run to score. Homer Center wins the championship, 2-1 in 8 innings.

In District 5, Windber battled top-seed Everett in the double-a final at Bedford.  Amy Miller's 2-RBI double in the second inning sparked a four-run rally for the Warriors, as Everett wins the championship in five innings, 13-2.

The District 5 class-a final is scheduled for Thursday between Southern Fulton and Northern Bedford.
