Bedford, PA - The Chestnut Ridge baseball team added another chapter to their history-making campaign Tuesday night, defeating Windber, 4-1 in the District 5-AA Championship Game.
Willie Harbaugh belted a third-inning RBI triple, and Brock Mangus sparked a 2-run rally in the fourth inning with a double. Kyle Hess scored twice for the Lions, who won their first district title since 1975, and first under head coach, Jim Skiles.
Skiles said after the game, "For them (the players) to bring a district baseball title to Chestnut Ridge just means so much. They'll never know how much it means to me, and I hope it means a lot to them."
Senior pitcher, Kelbi Berg pitched the complete game, striking out 11. Berg now has 90 home runs this year. The LaRoche recruit has dedicated his season to his 19-year old cousin, Dolan Mosser, who is battling leukemia at a Baltimore hostpital. Kelbi has taken pledges from area businesses and individuals per strike-out, and could raise as much as $20,000 to help Dolan's family with travel and medical expenses. Chestnut Ridge improves to 18-3, building on the best regular-season in school history. The Lions open inter-district action Monday against the champion out of District 3.
