International Tour De 'Toona Begins

Updated: July 23, 2007
For more than 20 years, some of the cycling's biggest stars have come to Altoona and the surrounding area for one of the nation's most prestigious bicycle races.
Stage I kicked off the 2007 event with the team time trail on a yet-to-be-opened section of I-99 near Port Matilda.
Tuesday's stage is a new point-to-point race through Cambria County, around Johnstown, and into Somerset County.
Racing continues through Sunday, July 29th with prizes being awarded in several men's and women's categories. The Tou De 'Toona is considered the premier event in women's cycling because the prize money is equivalent to that awarded in the men's categories.
