Eastern League All-Star Game Called for Fog

By: Kellie Goodman
Updated: July 11, 2007
Norwich, CT:  The 2007 Eastern League All-Star game lasted just 2-and-a-half innings before dense fog forced the cancellation of the mid-summer classic.

The North squad was leading, 2-0, with bases loaded for the South.  A fly ball to right field was not caught due to the low visibility, and two runs scored, tying the game at 2.  At that point, umpires huddled behind home plate with league officials and the game managers and determined the fog created conditions too dangerous to continue the game.  It will not be re-scheduled.

The Altoona Curve sent six all-stars to the game:  infielders Neil Walker and Steven Pearce, catcher Brian Peterson, and pitchers Luis Munoz, Matt Peterson, and David Davidson.

The Curve return to action Thursday to open a 7-game homestand at Blair County Ballpark.  It starts with a 4-game series against Akron.

The homestand will be highlighted by two Retro-Celebrity Series Appearances, but will also include performances by two highly popular traveling entertainment groups, two Curve giveaways and a Sunday fireworks extravaganza.

On Tuesday, July 17th, Christopher Knight will make a Retro-Celebrity Series appearance presented by S&T Bank at Blair County Ballpark.  Knight, who is best known for his role as "Peter Brady" on one of the most popular television shows in history, "The Brady Bunch", will be on hand for the 7:05 PM start and will be available to sign autographs, pose for pictures and other interaction with fans throughout the game.

Friday, July 13th, will also feature a Retro-Celebrtiy Series appearance.  Butch Patrick who gained national fame playing "Eddie Munster" on the cult television classic "The Munsters" will be the featured guest as the Curve take on the Akron Aeros at 7:05 PM.  Patrick will also be available throughout the game for autographs and pictures.

The homestand will also feature two popular entertainment acts.  To open the homestand on Thursday, July 12th, Reggy will be on hand to entertain the crowd throughout the night.  Thursday's series-opener with Akron is scheduled for 7:05 PM and will be preceeded by Curve Happy Hour presented by the Hotel Belmar on the Toyota Party Deck.  On Saturday, July 14th, fans at BCB will have their final chance to see the Fabulous Blues Brothers.  The Fabulous Blues Brothers who have been a popular attraction throughout professional sports for years, are working a limited schedule during 2007 prior to retiring after the year.  BCB gates will open to the public early at 5:30 PM for Saturday's 7:05 PM start.

Fans will also have the chance to receive two signature Curve giveaways during the homestand.  On Monday, July 16th, Geisinger Health Plan will present Curve Beach Towels to the first 2,000 fans of all ages as the team throws "Beach Party Night" at the ballpark.  Gates will open to the public at 6:00 PM on Monday for the series opener with Bowie at 7:05 PM.  To close the homestand on Wednesday, July 18th, the Curve along with Forney Financial Solutions, LLC, present the Curve Hat Desk Giveaway to the first 2,000 fans of all ages.  The series finale with Bowie will also begin at 7:05 PM.

BCB tradition will be upheld on Sunday, July 15th, with a 6:05 PM first pitch.  There will be a post-game Fireworks Spectacular presented by the Ramada Altoona and all kids will be permitted to run the BCB bases following the ballgame.  Also, prior to the ballgame at 4:30 PM, Curve players and coaches will take part in a Curve Autograph Session on the main concourse.  The autograph session is open to all people holding a ticket to that evening's game and gates will open early at 4:30 PM.
