South Tops North in Lezzer Lumber All-Star Game

Hollidaysburg Head Coach, John Barton led the South squad, while Chris Dworek from Brookville handled the head coaching duties for the North.
The North scored first when Curwensville's Shawn Sopic hauled in an interception and returned it from mid-field for a touchdown. The South answered with a 51-yard touchdown strike from Southern Huntingdon QB, Tyler Mansberger to Central's Kody Stiffey, it was a tie game, 7-7 after one quarter.
In the second quarter, Central Mountain QB, Kyle Turchetta hooked up with Brookville's Tyler Ross for a 38-yard pick-up, setting up a 5-yard Nick Sipes touchdown, the first of two Sipes scores on the night. The South returned fire. Tyler Gilman capping a second-quarter drive with a 6-yard touchdown run. At the half, the score was tied, 14-14.
In the third quarter, the South took the lead on the Mansberger 13-yard touchdown pass to Hollidaysburg's Jared Wilson. Then Jacob Librizzi from Bishop Guilfoyle picked up a North fumble and returned it 35 yards for a TD, and the South went on to defeat the North, 35-21.
Jacob Librizzi earned MVP honors for the South squad, along with Altoona's Wes Plummer. Shawn Sopic and Tyler Ross were named MVP's of the North.
Proceeds from the Lezzer Lumber Classic benefit the game's scholarship fund. The Central Pennsylvania Football Coaches Association has awarded $78,000 in scholarships over the last 21 years.
The Ken Lantzy All-Star Classic kicks off Saturday night in Johnstown, while PA all-stars battle the Ohio State squad in Hershey in the Big 33 Game. The PSFCA East-West All-Star game will be held Saturday, June 23rd at Altoona's Mansion Park.
