University Funding Update

Updated: February 1, 2013
HARRISBURG - An effort is underway in Pennsylvania to hold down future tuition increases at the state-related Universities in Pennsylvania.

Surrounded by University Leaders and Legislators supporting the move,   Governor Tom Corbett announced on Friday that State University funding for the coming year will be at the same level as last year. The funding limits for Penn State and the three other State related Universities will be spelled out in the Governor's budget address next week.

The Governor says the $1.58 billion   will be provided to the State related universities in exchange for a promise to keep tuition increases as low as possible for students.   Supporters of the budget proposal, including State Representative Kerry Benninghoff say that holding the line on tuition increases is a big step forward.

Benninghoff called Friday's announcement good news for the families that are currently covering the costs of college at Pennsylvania's State Related Universities.
