CLEARFIELD COUNTY - This is the first year  Black Moshannon  has participated in the New Years day hikes. This morning 15 people headed out on the 2 point 1 mile trail.

We tromped through about 12 inches of snow in about 30 degree weather.

"I wanted to bring my son out and have a good time" said Bob Conn.

Starting the year off with the right foot forward they chose to take a path less traveled.

"This is just a non traditional healthy way to get started with the New Year" he said.

Plus, Conn celebrated his birthday on January 1 and says some of the greatest gifts in life come free.

"The fresh air, the nature, the mountains, the snow  and I think we have a good tour guide too" he said.

Who knew all about the park and provided those on the trail with a few tips. A new tip that I learned on the trail,  if you're hot and outside they say not just to take your hat off, but to take it off and put some snow under it. It will keep you warm, but also cool you down.

First Day Hikes will take place again next year. People are always welcome to hike the state park trails.
