Chinese Record Breaker Accused of Doping

By: Brian Stalter
Updated: July 31, 2012
Even with no physical proof many are calling into question Chinese Women's 400-meter gold medalist Ye Shiwin, who set a record breaking lap of 4:28:43. Shiwin denies the allegations even if China has had problems with its athletes doping in the past.

Event organizers and swimming's governing body claim that the allegations are more out of jealousy than material proof and also stressed their confidence in the drug testing program.

The 16-year-old Shiwin's last lap was a full .17 of a second faster than her American male counterpart Ryan Lochte in the final lap of the 400-meter.

The previous record was set by Australian Stephanie Rice at the 2008 Beijing games, Rice was wearing a now banned body-suit.

I suspect the "many calling into question" are the losers.

I remember when Ben Johnson of Canada got caught doping, after beating Carl Lewis. So I suggest that anyone suspicious actually WAIT for proof. I always thought that the athletes were TESTED AFTER EACH RACE. If she took something powerful enough for her to beat a man then it will SHOW in her system. If they don't find anything then too bad...she won. I feel the same way about Lance Armstrong. THEY HAD THEIR SUFFICIENT CHANCES TO GET HIM. And they didn't prove JACK. So I dont want to hear any crying FOUL LOOOONG after the fact.
