Homer Center's Angel Piccirillo won the girls Class AA 1,600 meter run for the third year in a row while breaking the PIAA meet record with a time of 4:39.42, beating the 1980 record by 13 seconds. She also broke the meet record in the 800 with a time of 2:09.16.
In the girls AA triple jump, the meet record was broken three times. Paige Lumley from Richland initially broke the record with a jump of 39-07. Defending state champion Lanae Newsome out of Brookville Area then bettered that mark. On Lumley's final jump, she broke the record again at 40-01. It came down to Newsome's last jump, and she nailed it at 40-03 to beat Lumley by two inches and set the new PIAA meet record. Both girls were triple winners at the meet, each earning medals in two other events as well.
Other area gold medalists include Tryone's Charles Wilson-Adams in the boys AA high jump with a height of 6-08 and Adair Gennocro out of St. Mary's who won the girls AA 3200 meter run.
A couple of second place finishes from area athletes include Matt Dull from Chestnut Ridge in the boys 300 meter hurdles and Bellwood-Antis's 4 x 400 relay team.
West Point bound Stefen Moreau out of United had a successful weekend, medaling in all three of his throwing events.
