Altoona, PA -- The Altoona Curve announced their season-ending player awards prior to Thursday’s home finale at Blair County Ballpark.  Highlighting the awards presented was the announcement that first baseman Steven Pearce has been named the club’s 2007 Most Valuable Player.  Pearce, who is currently playing for the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians, hit .334 with 14 home runs and 72 RBI in 81 games for Altoona.  At the time of his promotion from Altoona to Triple-A, the 25-year old was leading the Eastern League in both batting average and slugging percentage (.586).

The Curve also presented their annual “Pitcher of the Year” award to reliever Matt Peterson.  In 49 appearances out of the Curve bullpen, Peterson has posted a 4-2 record with 27 saves, a 2.02 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 62 1/3 innings.  Peterson’s 27 saves rank second in the Eastern League and are tied for the most in Altoona franchise history.

Other Curve award winners were catcher Brian Peterson (“Unsung Hero Award” presented by Uncle Charley’s Sausage Co.) and outfielder Adam Boeve (“Bud Select King of Swing”).

Altoona will finish its 2007 regular season schedule with a four-day visit to Erie beginning Friday.  The Curve and SeaWolves are scheduled to play seven games over four days, including doubleheaders on Friday at 5:05 p.m., Saturday at 5:05 p.m. and Monday at 1:05 p.m. (if necessary).  The two clubs will play a single contest on Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m.   (Story Courtesy: Altoona Curve)
