PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Pittsburgh Pirates withstood
Philadelphia's four-run first inning to beat the Phillies 11-6.
Freddy Sanchez had a two-run homer among three hits. Paul Maholm
improved to 9-and-14 with the win. He settled down after allowing
six runs in the first two innings to pitch seven innings for the
victory.
With the score tied at 6, Xavier Nady singled and Adam LaRoche
doubled to start the Pirates' fifth. Abraham Nunez bobbled Ronny
Paulino's grounder, then threw far past first baseman Ryan Howard
to score both runners and sending Paulino to second. Paulino later
scored on Jack Wilson's squeeze bunt.
Forty-four-year-old Jamie Moyer fell to 11-and-9 for the
Phillies.
