Pirates Break Out of Slump In a Big Way

By: Mike Fink

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Ronny Paulino belted a grand slam during a
five-run Pittsburgh first inning that carried the Pirates past St.
Louis 15-1. That ends the Cardinals' four-game win streak.
Tony Armas became only the second Pirates pitcher to win since
the All-Star break. He's 1-and-3 with his first win as a starter
since he won for Washington last September 24. He held the
Cardinals to Aaron Miles' first home run over six and a-third
innings.
Braden Looper fell to 8-and-9 with the loss.
