Mounties go Pink to fight Breast Cancer

By: Carolyn Donaldson
Updated: December 6, 2012
The Mount Aloysius "Pink Out" effort was aimed at promoting better health for women through early detection of breast cancer, urging baseline and annual mammograms and breast self-exam.

The effort also sought to raise awareness and funds supporting the outstanding work of the Windber Medical Center's Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center. The community embraced the message and nearly 300 Mount Aloysius students, faculty, staff and area residents signed the "The Pink Pledge," marking their personal commitment to promoting better breast health and awareness.

The volunteer effort culminated in a totally "pinked out" Mount Aloysius Volleyball game, pitting the Ladies Mounties against Shenandoah University. The tournament took place before a packed Mount Aloysius Athletic Fitness and Wellness Center.

At a recent meeting of the Mount Aloysius College Board of Trustees, Mountie volunteers presented a check for $ 2,032 to representatives of the Medical Center.
