UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, WASHINGTON D.C. -- A positive sign on the job front today. The number of people filing for Unemployment Benefits fell last week. The US Labor Department reports 357,000 people filed for their first week of jobless claims. That is 6,000 fewer from the week before.
Economists tend to analyze the average number of claims over a four-week period as a more accurate indicator of the Unemployment Climate. That figure also fell this month. Roughly, 3.3 million people filed for their second week of Unemployment Benefits in the week that ended on March 24th. According to the Economists, that is a decline of about 16,000 claims from the previous week.
The Labor Department releases its March Jobs Report today. Economists predict it will show that employers added more than 200,000 jobs for the fourth month in a row. However, the unemployment rate is expected to hold steady at 8.3 percent.
