UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY - Bill O'Brien denied reports Monday morning that he received a raise to remain the head football coach at Penn State.

While meeting with reporters at Beaver Stadium O'Brien said his decision to stay at Penn State came down to his family, his players, his coaching staff, and the direction in which the program is headed.

As for his courtship with the NFL, O'Brien characterized his contact as nothing more than conversations. It was widely reported last week that he interviewed with both the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles.

The Penn State coach emphatically denied reports that he received any more money to stay in Happy Valley.

O'Brien says that he did not ask for a raise and that no one offered him one, contrary to reports that a $1.3 million donation was made to keep him at Penn State.

"If I was about money, more than likely, I probably wouldn't be sitting here right now," O'Brien said. "It's not about money. It's about making sure that Penn State - Penn State University, Penn State athletic department, Penn State football - does everything we can do in our power to make this place the best it can be for our student athletes."

Monday's press conference came exactly one year to the day after O'Brien was introduced as the 15th head football coach in Penn State history.
