BEECH CREEK, CLINTON COUNTY - It wasn't your typical fundraiser Saturday in Beech Creek as dozens of archers set their sights on raising money for Relay for Life.

For three years Jackie Brown has co-captained the Relay for Life team "Army of Angels."

This year she decided to go about fundraising a little differently.

"This idea came about because we do have a lot of people who are in to archery in the area and the owners were nice enough to set up tournament for us," Army of Angels Co-Captain Jackie Brown says.

They called it "Bow Up Against Cancer."

Teams of two paid $30 apiece to compete at Eagle Valley Sporting Goods in Beech Creek with the proceeds going directly to relay for life.

"We've been open for a little more than a year and during that we've come close to many different families and it's been quite the experience," Eagle Valley Sporting Goods Owner Todd White says.

With more than 25 teams signed up in year one, Brown was surprised how quickly the tournament caught on.

"It's great just to see people turn out for something like this because they can. They can have fun and help a good cause while they're at it. It's a no brainer," Brown says.

Brown knows first hand the pain cancer can cause.
Army of Angels started after the death of her father-in-law 3 years ago.

"We put the team together really quickly in his honor and then it's just taken off from there since it does affect so many people especially in this area," Brown says.

And that reason alone is why store owner Todd White was more than willing to open his doors for a good cause.

"How can you say no? It's something that is good for everybody," White says.
