EBENSBURG, CAMBRIA COUNTY - The passage of the fiscal cliff compromise this week is expected to give a significant boost to the wind energy industry.

The legislation includes production tax credits that will lower the cost of electricity produced by new wind turbine projects. That financial assistance is expected to lead to the development of additional wind energy project in this country.

Gamesa, which manufactures wind energy equipment in Cambria County, recently laid off a large part of it work force.  A company spokesperson says there are no immediate plans to rehire any of those workers but the new tax credits could lead to future business and an expansion of manufacturing operations.

Comments

Wind energy is a joke. The only people who make money off of it are the people who are paid to put up the turbines.
