Rain, snow and ice could make for a long night for Penelec.

"When the ice accumulates on limbs and trees, that's when we lose a tree limb or a tree comes down and makes contact with our facilities that's when the outages are caused," Beverly Green of Penelec says.

Penelec says it's difficult to predict what types of storms will cause the most problems, but when winter weather approaches, they're always on standby.

"Our employees are very aware of what their responsibilities are during a weather event so they're prepared to respond when we need to," Green says.

And they're crossing their fingers that this storm falls into the same pattern of most this season.

"We really have been very fortunate that some of the storms that we have had have been very manageable over the course of a day or so we haven't had anything that's run over an extended period of time other than the hurricane in November," Green says.

Visit the Penelec website to view or report any power outages in the region.
