HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY -- A new animal rescue group in Blair County is ready to help animals in need --  and welcome help from others.

Mending Hearts Animal Rescue Inc. of Hollidaysburg recently received its non-profit status and opened this shelter.

Luann Wolf, Founder and President says, "One of the biggest advantages we have is that we're small. So we don't have a large number of animals to have to deal with the euthanasia part of it. "
Darby - a Corgie mix and Scout - a Lab mix have a found a loving temporary home along with kittens and dozens of other animals here.

Each animal is checked carefully.
As Wolf explains, "When they come in, we make sure that they're wormed and they have all their shots and they're checked out by the vet before they're allowed to run with the other animals."

Newly opened  - this rescue needs lots of help.
"Volunteers would be one. Another one would be cat litter, cat food, dog food,  blankets, things that don't have stuffing in them, " says Wolf.

The volunteers work with other shelters and on-line rescue groups to help dogs, cats and other breeds find forever homes.
"Because of the group of networkers we have and volunteers without them Mending Hearts wouldn't be what it is because everybody shares the passion for the animals," adds Wolf.

Those wanting to adopt one of these four legged friends is carefully screened and references are checked.

A Dinner and Coach purse auction is planned as their first fund-raiser for Mending Hearts Animal Rescue Wednesday night at the Bavarian Club in Altoona.
