Folks at the Central Blair Senior Center extend their hours to area seniors, so they can get out of the sun, and, literally chill out. "Butter" Tomb
says plenty of her friends come to get out of the sun, and into some shade.

"Come in and get in to the cool..."

Florence Hotencamp adds that the games and activities attract a good crowd as well.

"...it's cool here, and we can play cards, and it's something that you don't have to do in the heat..."

Seniors out in the heat deal with the same problems that everyone does. Dehydration, sunburn among others, but when the thermometer soars,
many times a lack of mobility, puts them at more risk. Hotencamp dealt with the extreme heat first hand on Friday.

"...I'm afraid of it cause I cant breathe in it, it's terrible... I walked over to the mailbox to get my mail, and wasn't sure I could get back..."

The senior center offers many types of activities, from internet access, to cards, even bingo. But "Butter" as Tomb's affectionately known, says
it's the friends, and freindly faces, that bring them back.

"A lot of people do like to come here, I think they enjoy it, and if they talk to me, they'll be back."

The senior center will be open from 9 am till 4 pm on Saturday for all seniors. They remind folks to check on their older friends, neighbors and relatives during the extreme heat.
