HOLLIDAYSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY - The 20th Volunteer Maine Militia paid tribute to the Civil War Sunday.
For Captain Bill Jones, Sr. the Civil War encampment isn't just for show. "My great great grandfather was one of the last civil war veterans to die in Pennsylvania. He died in 1943," Jones said. "It's just basically for them."
This time of year brings up a lot of history and for the folks at the encampment, it's all about history and education.
Johnathan Letcher is 13 years old and for him, the reenactment is exciting. "I'm out here because it's amazing and interesting."
The education of the Civil War is something Jones said a lot of kids don't understand. "I don't think that they do a good job on history anymore and that's my opinion," Jones said. "We try to at least get them into a setting where they can see the camp life."
No matter what, the reenactment is all about celebration. "It's a tribute to our ancestors and we just want to make sure that the public is educated the right way," Jones said.
