Penn State Softball Player Leaving a Legacy

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. -- In just her junior year, Penn State outfielder Cassidy Bell is climbing her way up the softball record books.
Bell underwent an emergency appendectomy in February and missed 18 games. Since her return in late March, Bell has been on fire at the plate with nine multi-hit games in the last 24 outings. She also has nine home runs, four doubles and a triple. During a 24-game hitting barrage, she raised her career average to .323 and has reached base in all but one game. In Big Ten play alone, she leads all conference players in total bases (51) and tied for first in homers (6), while ranking third in slugging (.797), fourth in on-base percentage (.526), tied-fourth in hits (27) and sixth in average (.422).
Head Coach Robin Petrini says Bell will leave here as one of the best to ever wear the blue and white.
"I expect her to break a lot of records by the time she graduates because she has another year here, and she's just that kind of player," said Petrini. "The player that we had that came through a couple years back was Ashley Esparza and she set a bunch of records, and Cassidy is going to break those records because that's the type of player Cassidy is. Ashley Esparza was an All-American for us and I'm hoping Cassidy will have that opportunity also."
