PENN STATE, UNIVERSITY PARK - Penn State students don't think the Paterno family's report was discussed on campus as much as Freeh report.
Folks in the Penn State community have largely stood behind Joe Paterno throughout the scandal's unwinding. Sunday, students are reacting to the Paterno family's review of the Freeh report.
It's a typical Sunday on Penn State's main campus. Students walking around, reminiscing about weekend festivities. But this Sunday, another topic of conversation is a buzz on campus.
"I feel like a lot of it might not be true and that he was innocent, so I was just curious to see the truth," Sophomore Paige Friedland said.
"I have a lot of different mixed feelings," Senior Mac Frederick said. "I'm just really glad they finally came out with something."
It's no secret that Joe Paterno is widely known and respected on Penn State's campus. Senior Mac Frederick met Joe when he was just 13 and says that memory is one he'll never forget.
"He was just the most heartwarming, outgoing guy I ever met," he said.
Nicole Labarge was on campus when the Freeh report first came out last July and she says it was the talk of the town. But now, with the release of the Paterno family's report, she's noticed a different reaction.
"It's just been a lot quieter," Labarge said. "Just because the Freeh report was such a big deal, and it seems like this isn't getting as much attention."
And she's not alone.
"As a student, I hate the fact that all that happened, so I don't really want to talk about it, so I feel like that's probably why it's not as prominent today," freshman Max Salon said.
But Salon says even though the Paterno family's report may not be the talk of the town on campus Sunday, he hopes it will be the chance to change the minds of those who see the coach, and the university, in a negative light.
"I feel like it's the outsiders who hate on Joe Paterno and all the students and faculty and everyone still loves him, regardless of what happens," he said.
