Copper Thief Gets Busted

JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY - An alleged copper theft thief is caught trying to sell it off for cash.

Derek Tate is accused of taking copper off of a Penelec substation on Dishong Mountain Road, in Cambria County. 

The theft happened back in December. 

The 22-year old was identified and taken in to custody after he tried selling the copper at a scrap yard for cash. 

Penelec says he caused nearly $12,000 in damages.
