TIPTON, BLAIR COUNTY -  An effort to support the struggling economy of Northern Blair County got a significant boost Friday.  A state grant of $1 million is expected to help open the region for future development.

Part of the sewer system that serves Tipton and surrounding townships in Northern Blair County is reported to be in sorry shape. That why the  state grant for  rebuilding some deteriorated collection lines is drawing plenty of local support.

In addition to opening the region to additional residential and commercial development, the state grant should pay off by helping to attract future jobs and economic growth.  The replacement and   renovation of about 17,000 feet of waste water lines in the Tipon area is expected to get underway in may of this year.

Supporters say an additional benefit comes from protecting the ground water in the area.
