JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Bishop McCort's Principal Ken Salem was put on administrative leave, and people want to know why, and the answers may not be made public anytime soon.
Attorney Tim Burns is the legal council for the group "Friends and Family of Bishop McCort." More than 300 people met on Monday night to discuss the principal's abrupt absence. Burns spoke to the Board of Trustees attorney, Kathleen Gallagher Wednesday night.
"With such a dramatic move, I told here there are a lot of questions those alumni, donors and the public have," said Burns. "Plus what happened has really put the board in the public's eye."
Gallagher could not discuss Salem's leave.
"This was a very difficult decision for the board and that's all I can say at this time," said Gallagher.
Many people at Monday's meeting felt Salem is the scape-goat because of the allegations surrounding Brother Stephan Baker. Baker committed suicide in January but was under suspicion of sexually abusing dozens of former students.
"The board is and always been committed to working with the members of the McCort family," said Gallagher. "They will give them the information which it can, but that information it has to be done in the context that the school is in litigation."
Both attorneys agreed that the focus should be not to forget the victims in the case.
Burn's submitted a list of questions of people's concerns to Gallagher and expects to have an answer by the end of the week.
