PAVIA, BEDFORD COUNTY - There was nasty, icy weather across Central Pennsylvania Tuesday, and the worst of it was near Blue Knob Ski Resort.

Eric McNeal works at the resort. He told WTAJ the owners closed up and sent everyone home because it was too icy to have people on the slopes and roads.

It wasn't nearly as bad in the lower elevations. Things got progressively worse as you drove up the mountain. And when you reached the top, visibility was down to about fifty yards, the wind was whipping the pine trees around, and the parking lot was a sheet of ice, and people were putting chains on their tires just to leave the lot. People in the parking lot were chipping about a quarter inch of ice off their car windshields.

That ice buildup causes real problems for power companies like Penelec they're watching the ice on power lines and trees because they can fall and rip down the lines causing power outages.

McNeal and the rest of the crew at Blue Knob are used to the weather changing quickly up on the mountain, but even for them and ice storm like this is rare.
