RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- The Richland Elementary School Cheerleaders competed in Orlando, Florida and won the title of National Champions.

The girls ages 8-12 won state and regional championships.  They got a bid to compete at UCA Nationals where they placed second in 2012.

'We went last year and placed second," said Megan Miller, Coach.  "The girls really wanted to go back to redeem themselves."

'We've worked really hard," said 12-year old Victoria Wissinger, Captain.

"We had some bumps along the way," said 11-year old Kathryn McQuaide, Captain.  "But we came out on top."

The squad was welcomed home with a parade escorted by police and firefighters.

"We are so proud and excited," said Miller.  'We never thought we would win and have the opportunity we did."

"It was very exciting to have our town support us," said Wissinger.

"It was a great way to end out the year," said McQuaide.

This is the first squad to ever win a national championship in the area.
