"I think girls look on TV and see other girls who weigh 95 pounds, their supermodels and wear all this make up," said Yahnert. "Not every girl is like that- whether you have a big or small waist, your tiny or tall curvy or straight every girl should see they're beautiful the way they are."
Yahnert felt so strongly that every girl is beautiful in their own way she deiced to convince her classmates to think the same.
'I sold these pink t-shirts to help boost girl's self- esteem." They had to wear no make -up, dress down and not do their hair."
Yahnert sold over $1,400 in shirts, all of which she is donating to the Woman's Help Center in Johnstown. Students throughout the school wore the pink shirts on Wednesday in support of Yahnert's mission.
"When I told them how much we were giving they were very grateful," said Dr. Jessica Masser, Yahnert's aunt and inspiration.
"I am so proud of her," said Masser. "I knew she was doing this because she had concerns on how some of her friends see themselves and she wants them to be comfortable with who they are."
Masser a former Conemaugh Valley High School student herself is a doctor through Conemaugh Health Systems. She said she sees patients who have low self esteem every day. She gave a speech at the school back in December to help girls appreciate and value their bodies. It wasn't long after her nice got the idea to sell the t-shirts, boost her classmates self esteem and give back to the Woman's Help Center.
"If I can change one person's view on something that means more to me than not doing anything at all," said Yahnert.
