Expanding Healthcare for Pa Kids

By: Charlotte Ames
Updated: January 30, 2013
The governor's office has announced a new effort to provide healthcare for children in Pennsylvania.

The 2013-2014 budget proposal calls for spending $8.5 million dollars to increase awareness of the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and to enroll  an additional 9300 kids.

Parents pay a premium based on their income and their children receive routine check-ups, vaccinations, dental and vision services. State  Insurance Commissioner Michael Consedine says CHIP is available to all uninsured children and teens who aren't eligible for medical assistance

For more information on the CHIP program, call 1-800-986-KIDS or visit www.chipcoverspakids.com.

According to state figures, CHIP has provided health coverage to more than one million children in Pennsylvania since 1993.

Great news since most major insurers (as a result of The Affordable Care Act) have ceased "child only" health insurance plans. Of course in 2014, they will become available again. Edward Harris pahealthinsurancecoverage.com
