Penn State Hershey is getting a $4 million dollar federal grant to study Parkinson's disease.

The five-year-award from the National Institutes of Health will be used to find biomarkers for the movement disorder. Right now, there's no way to detect cell-loss in the brain related to Parkinson's disease.

Professor Xuemei Huang of Penn State Hershey Medical Center has been an active researcher in this field. The new award will be based on recent results from her laboratory that suggest a novel way to detect Parkinson's related brain damage by using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
