Johnstown Firefighters Fight Back Against Cancer

JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY--- Johnstown's bravest were not afraid to wear pink during the month of October; in fact they did it proudly and raised more than $6,100.00.

On Friday the city firefighters donated a check to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in Windber.

"We're very proud," said Captain Jim McCann.  "We're a little taken back by all the money we raised."

October is breast cancer awareness month during those few weeks the department sold pink t-shirts.  All of the proceeds raised were donated.

"All of the money stays local," said Patty Felton, Director Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center.  "It's truly amazing they raised this much in such a short time."

"At first we were so caught up in taking orders and selling them we did not know exactly how much we raised," said McCann.  "It's awesome we were able to do this and help out a good cause."

The department plans on making the t-shirts every October, each year a different design.
