MEYERSDALE, SOMERSET COUNTY - A community is waiting for answers after a body was found in Somerset County.

The human remains were found on Sunday afternoon near Meyersdale. Since then State Police out of Somerset have been trying to figure out who it is and what could have happened to this person. And so far they are not releasing much about their investigation.

A hiker found human remains while walking the Great Allegheny Passage Trail outside Meyersdale. The State Police also called in a special forensic pathologist team from Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. Dr Dennis Dirkmaat has worked with WTAJ before and he told us what normally goes into a forensic investigation in an area like this.

They start from outside of the place where the body is found and work their way in to the scene. They clear all the vegetation out carefully to make sure they don't miss any evidence. They specialize in scenes where time, weather, or animals may have disturbed the original scene of what could be a crime.

The State Police plan to hold a news conference at Tuesday afternoon.
