ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - With several thousand utility customers in Blair County still with out power, concern is growing about how to make sure those people remain safe and warm.

That's why a warming center opened its doors to the public Tuesday afternoon in Altoona.   Salvation Army volunteers set up a dining area and prepared a hot meal for anyone in need at their Sixth Avenue headquarters.  Their plan was to make sure that anyone who had lost the ability to stay warm was not left out in the cold.

A second Blair County warming center opened on Tuesday afternoon at the Tyrone Senior Center.   Both of the afternoon warming centers were shutting down at 6 in the evening.

That because a Red Cross Shelter in Blair County is opening at that hour in the Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department.   The new shelter is located at 1500 East Pleasant Valley Boulevard.  The Red Cross workers setting up that facility say that shelter will remain open as long as it is needed.
