Thon is getting closer, and many in the Penn State community laced up their running shoes for the cause on Saturday.

Saturday was the THON 5K Run in State College. Around 7,000 people turned out for the event, coming in all shapes and all sizes. Even a robot was running!

They say it's the biggest 5K in central Pennsylvania.

Some Students, like freshman Leah Rothwll, say it's just about making as much of a difference as they can.

"I mean its Penn State, so I'm getting used to the big crowds and everything so I like being a small part of a huge thing..."

Sophomore Mallory Winner says it's nothing compared to what the kids with cancer have to deal with.

"I just feel like I need to help, do anything I can, and getting up on a Saturday is not as bad as what they have to go through so.."

THON officials say they beat last year's number of more than 6,400 runners.
