BEDFORD COUNTY, Its being called one of the closest races in Bedford County politics.
After roughly 6-thousand ballots were tallied, the race for county commissioner came down to just a few votes on the republican side.
Incumbent, Steve Howsare won with a commanding lead. However, with just a few votes separating Michael Shaffer and Michael Herline, who currently holds the second place position, and a place on the November ballot, Shaffer has decided to ask for a re-count in at least one precinct.
Shaffer will have to legally file his appeal with the South Woodbury precinct and any others by early next week.
At that point, the court of common pleas will have to decide whether or not his appeal is justified before a re-count can take place. We did try and touch base with Herline, however hes out of town this week and unavailable for comment.
If a re-count does take place, it would only be for the commissioners race, and the votes for both parties would tallied again.
However, the Board of Elections says the results for the democratic race are likely to remain the same with Gary Ebersole and Glenora Faupel as your leaders. Well of course keep you posted as this race for commissioner continues.
